The second Midgard Moot event will take place at Boards And Swords Hobbies, Derby, UK on Saturday 25th April 2026. After the success of the first Midgard Moot in 2025 (see the picture report here), we are returning with a full day of Midgard Heroic Battles games in a variety of historical, legendary and fantasy settings.
This year’s line-up features at least seven hosted games and one campaign focused on Alfred the Great fighting the Vikings in the lead-up to the Battle of Edington in 878 AD. For the hosted games, everything is provided – you just need to turn up and play (no experience needed). For the campaign, you will need to bring your own 300 point Viking or Anglo-Saxon Force – see details below.Photo by Pete Jenkins
Not only that, but, for the first time, we have a special guest: Ryan Lavelle of the University of Winchester. Ryan is not only an author and Professor of Early Medieval History, but has also been a historical consultant on The Last Kingdom TV series and the Assassins’ Creed games. He also wargames and has helped to advise on the Alfred the Great campaign that features as part of the event. At the presentation after the day’s gaming, Ryan will be delivering a short talk on the challenges and perils of wargaming in the Viking Age.
Last but not least, there is a curry available at Slice of India Buffet Restaurant for those that wish to make an evening of it (additional cost of £23.95, payable to Slice of India on the day).

Alfred The Great Themed Campaign
