I’ve just posted my latest video, a picture report of a mini-campaign that I played on my visit to Wales a few weeks back. Lord Raglan (Gareth Lane) hosted and providing his amazing Hundred Years’ War collection for two games of Midgard Heroic Battles.

I’ve also got a provisional date in the diary for Midgard Moot 2 next year! No booking information yet but I’m looking forward to this.

Hi James,
Lovely video, really inspiring.
I align with Gareth’s POV – the spectacle and the camaraderie is just as important as the Game, whoever wins. Next year, I hope to show my Ancient German and EIR armies. The Germans are nearly there (Heavy rider unit and 2 Light Rider Units coming soon, plus Heroes to lead them), and then I turn to the EIR rebasing (big job), and unit completions. Inspired by Robert Sulentic’s Late Roman pics on the Facebook pages, I will experiment with 2 ranks of 7 across for legionaries, so 14 figures on the 12cm x 6 cm base, compact and giving the impression of well-drilled troops. Less so for auxiliaries, so they will be on 2 ranks of 6 across, although it is arguable that some units of auxiliary infantry were just as well drilled as the legionaries. It is all aesthetics at the end of the day. I want the legionaries to close with the more loosely formed German war bands so there is a visual representation of the 2 fighting styles.
Also inspired by the Facebook posts on Berserkers and Ulfhednar, I am minded to have a German unit of 7 ordinary warriors charging behind 3 frenzied berserkers, rather than a full unit of 10 Berserkers/Ulfhednar. As a commentator said, how on earth would you expect to organise and co-ordinate red-mist Berserkers into a cohesive unit? I would not have come to that conclusion without having the benefit of contributors’ opinions.
I am rambling on, great Video, thank you, and I was delighted to hear of Midgard Moot 2 in April 2026, I would really like to partake.
All the Best, Mike
