A 300 point Saxon Force for the Battle of Degsastan, 603 CE. You can read more about Midgard Force sizes here.

Other equipment required:

Measuring sticks or ruler/ tape measure.  Midgard measurements are carried out in Spear Throws – they are usually 12 cm for 28mm miniatures but can vary depending on your Unit size and gaming area. Specific Midgard measuring stick sets of a new design (not seen below) will be available in printed MDF from Too Fat Lardies or STLs for 3D printing from mogsymakes.net nearer the time of release (expected Nov 2024).

Some homemade and 3D printed measuring sticks for Midgard; you can also use a tape measure or ruler if you prefer.

Charging or Winning Markers – around 5 per side needed for a standard 300-400 point game

Shot markers – used to record when missiles have been loosed. One needed for each missile-armed Unit or Hero

The official marker sets are shown below, both of which will be available from Reisswitz Press. There is a ready to use 3mm printed MDF set and also a set of STLs – see images for full details.

A 6mm Trojan Wars battle in progress using Rapier and Baccus Miniatures. The red arrow token (bottom left) is a Charging or Winning Marker to show that the blue chariots have a combat bonus. The yellow quiver token (top right) is a Shot Marker to indicate that the red chariots have loosed their javelins and can’t shoot again this Turn.

Six-sided dice – around 12 per side plus some extra in different colours

Vessel of Reputation and Reputation tokens – one vessel per side plus around 12 tokens

My standard Reputation vessels: charity shop goblets with some coloured glass beads, but you can use anything you like.

Mighty Deeds – some kind of marker to record Heroes’ Mighty Deeds.  Around 10-12 needed per side for a standard 300-400 point game

Tostig Godwinsson rushes into battle! He has two Mighty Deeds markers – these are ‘Viking beard rings’ sourced cheaply from eBay. Miniatures by Footsore and Gripping Beast.

Stamina loss markers – any method that you like of recording Stamina damage on Units and Heroes.  Micro dice, dials and wound/ shield tokens are all easy ways to do this.  No Unit will require more than 3 Stamina loss markers.

Another shot from our Harold Godwinsson in Wales campaign. The Saxon Unit at the bottom of the shot has taken a point of Stamina damage which is marked with a white shield (simply a spare Gripping Beast shield glued onto a textured base).
From the same game, Pete’s Welsh are fixed onto magnetic discs on the Unit base. A figure is removed for each Stamina point lost, so the bottom left Unit has taken three points of damage and is on its final point of Stamina.
These 15/18mm miniatures (from Wiglaf and Forged in Battle) have a small dice holder at the back of the Unit base to record Stamina loss.
